How To Wear a Birdcage Veil

Birdcage veils. So retro and so beautiful; though, they can be tricky to pull off. If you've recently purchase a bridal bird cage veil and are having trouble achieving the right look.. do read on. There are several sizes and shapes to choose from, and several ways to wear them. Here's a tutorial.

When you first try on your bird cage veil, it may look something like this!

Birdcage veils often require bobby pins to be held in position. Try a pin on each side, near the temples.

Try moving the comb placement from side to side, forward and backwards on the head. Play around with it, see what works for you!

Add a flower or fascinator! And you do not have to place the flower where the veil comb is. Sometimes the flower can even help hold the veil in a flattering position.

Add some bling! Here at Everything Angelic bridal designs, we can add Swarovski rhinestones, crystals and pearls either scattered, edged or both! No need to be plain Jane if you don't want to.

Here is a birdcage bandeau veil. A bandeau veil attaches on each side as opposed to a single comb attachment on the top. Because of the side attachments, a bandeau will lay flatter across your face. You can place it straight or asymmetrical. Generally, a bandeau is 9" in length.

A bandeau will require bobby pins on top - about 2 or 3 as shown. Your hair dresser should be able to help you with this!

This is an 8" mini birdcage veil. It has the single comb attachment on top, however it is cut and sewn differently than a standard birdcage and so it lays flat across the face.

A mini birdcage will require 1 or 2 bobby pins near the temples to be held in place.

Here are some additional tips for wearing a bird cage veil!

If your veil is folded from shipping:
  • Non beaded veils can be ironed. Place a pillowcase between the iron and the veil. Use the steam setting, and do not touch the iron to the veil.
  • For embellished beaded veils, use shots of steam from your iron or steamer to smooth out any folds. Do not touch the iron to the veil.
If your veil does not fall on your face the way you would like, you can adjust the position of the comb higher, lower, or side to side on your head to achieve the desired look.

How to Wear a Lariat Necklace

A lariat necklace does not have a clasp. To wear a lariat, you tie it in a single knot! As with any necklace it may require an occasional adjustment, however it will not fall off.

How To Wear Flower Hair Pins

Many brides have called recently asking how to wear flower hair pins. Here's the low down!

Everything Angelic flower hair ornaments come on hair pins, which are "U" shaped pins. A few come on small metal combs. These instructions apply to both U pins and combs.

First of all, if you are getting a professional updo or half updo, a U pin or comb will slip right into your hair and stay put. No worries!

If you are wearing your hair down, you can still wear flowers in your hair... here's how!

Place a sturdy bobby pin or small barrette in your hair where you want to put the flower. I purchased these silver bobbies at the grocery store. If your bobbies aren't sturdy enough, you can use two and cross them for extra staying power. You can also hairspray them before adding the flower.

Insert the flower (U pin or comb) under the bobby pin. The bobby pins are hidden under the flower.

Viola! Your flower will not go anywhere, even on the beach. Or the next day. Or next week... maybe next year...?!?

Choosing The Right Bridal Necklace & Jewelry

With so many jewelry stores and websites out there, choosing the perfect bridal necklace can be a tough decision. Here are a few pointers to help you find the perfect match for your perfect day!

1.Get your dress first. It's hard to pick jewelry that compliments your dress properly if you don't have the dress in front of you. Even though you may remember nearly all of the details, it's best to wait until you have it in hand in order to get it right. Many of my brides have ordered a necklace before receiving their dress; and later when the dress arrives they find the necklace doesn't match. By this time it's been months and is way too late for an exchange.

2. Find your personal style. Blingy, statement pieces with lots of rhinestones and crystals. Classic, elegant pieces with Swarovski crystals and fresh water pearls. Beachy, casual pieces with delicate Swarovski crystals only. My personal favorite look is vintage style jewelry paired with a solid satin or lace gown.

3.Match your style with your gown. If your dress has a lot of detailed beading, you generally want to go with delicate jewelry made of similar materials. If your dress has minimal beading, you can go bigger on the jewelry. The main idea here is to mimic the necklace to the neckline and materials of the gown!

Here are my recommendations for jewelry with different bridal gown necklines:
